Crop sequences and Tillage systems in North Buenos Aires (Pergamino - Argentina)

Objective
Evaluate long-term impact of changes of cropping systems on soil quality; Identify management alternatives that maximize agricultural production, minimizing environmental risk.
Description
Long-term experiments of crop sequences, tillage systems and nitrogen fertilizations were carried out at Pergamino.

Design description
The maize-double cropped wheat/soybean sequences (three crops in two years) which began in 1979, the double cropped wheat/soybean which started in 1983, and the maize and soybean monocultures which were added in 1987. Each experiment presented a completely randomized block design. The main plot was 45 m long by 14 m wide, and the tillage systems were randomized in the main plots. The tillage systems were moldboard plow, chisel plow and no tillage in all rotations.
