This is one of nine sites of The National Long-Term Fertilization Trials (NLFT) Network, originally set up to evaluate the effects of NPK fertilizers on crop yields in eight different agro-ecological regions of Hungary.
The Hungarian field trial network , "OMTK", was established at 26 different sites representing the main agro-ecoregions of the country, only nine of these sites now continue. The trials were started in the autumn of 1967 in a rotation of winter wheat-corn-corn-peas. These trials consist of increasing nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium rates and combinations of these mineral fertilizers. The trials were initiated to establish a uniform network of fertilizer trials were initiated to establish a uniform network of fertilizer trials representing different agro-ecological regions of the country. The aim of these trials was to study the effects of increasing fertilizer rates on soil nutrients as well as to predict fertilizer consumption in Hungary. In recent years investigation son the environmental impact of fertilisation has become a primary importance. The nine sites are at several different universities and research institutes and the program is supervised by the Pannon University of Agricultural Sciences at Keszthely which is the founder of the trials and responsible for directing and coordinating the maintenance of the sites, the analysis of soil and plant samples, the processing of data and interpretation of results.
