Old Permanent Manurial Trial

This experiment has been added by the GLTEN Curators using existing published sources.
Objective
1. To delineate soil physical constraints in different districts of Tamil Nadu, India 2. To teach soil physics course for M.Sc.(Ag) & Ph.D Soil Science Students 3. To develop management strategies for physical constraints.
Description
This experiment is used to study the continuous application of nutrients on yield and available nutrients status of soil. It has eighteen treatments which comprises of control, either nutrients alone or in combination, organic manures alone and integrated nutrient management

Design period: Original designs (1909—2007)

Description
Detailed information on the cropping history could not be found. Experiment treatments were N, P and K alone and in combination. Before 1980 two crops were grown each year (cereal-cotton). After 1980 the experiment was transformed to a non-irrigated condition and only one crop grown per year. Also in 1980 plots were divided to compare old fertilizer rates with a new fertilizer regime where fertilization rates were based on soil test results
Design description
The trial is non-replicated.

Design period: Revised design (2008—)

Description
From 2008 onwards the treatments were revised to suit the high yielding crops. The experiment now uses a sunflower maize cropping sequence under irrigated conditions and with both crops grown in the same year.
Design description
The experiment has 18 treatment combinations. Plot areas is 100m2
