Description
An experiment was set up at the Pergamino Experimental Station of the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA) introducing fall-winter grasses (rescue grass (Bromus unioloides L.), ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.), oats (Avena sativa L.), barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)), crucifers (rape seed (Brassica napus L.), forage radish (Raphanus sativus L.)), a legume (vetch (Vicia sativa L.)) and an oats+vetch mixture as cover crops in a maize-soybean rotation under no tillage with and without N fertilization of maize. A control without cover crop was included and it was maintained without weeds during the cover crops growing season using chemical control.
Design description
The experimental design consisted of three completely randomized blocks with split plot; the main plots (30 x 10 m) corresponding to the cover crop treatment and the subplots to the fertilizer treatment (0 and 32 kg N ha-1 at V5-6 stage of maize).
